The NCC in India was formed in 1948 by The National Cadet Corps Act of 1948. The Act was adopted on the 15th of July 1948. National Cadet Corps can be described as the successor of the University Officers Training Corps (UOTC) which was established in 1942 by the British in 1942. British during 1942. In the years following World War II, the UOTC did not meet the requirements set by the British. This led to the idea that better plans should be devised to aid more kids with greater efficiency even in peacetime. A committee chaired by Pandit H.N. Kunzru suggested a cadet association to be set up within colleges and schools at a national level. In 1948 the National Cadet Corps Act was approved by the Governor General and on July 15 in 1948 The National Cadet Corps came into existence.

In the wars in 1965 and 1971, between United States and Pakistan, NCC cadets were the secondary line of defence. They organized camps to aid factories that produced ordinance and also supplied ammunition and arms at the front. They they also formed patrol groups to take down enemies paratroopers. The NCC Cadets worked with Civil Defence authorities and actively involved in rescue efforts as well as traffic management. After in the year 1965 as well as the one of 1971 Indo-Pak wars , the NCC syllabus was revised. Instead of being merely the second line of defense, the NCC syllabus was able to place more emphasis on the formation of leadership and officer-like attributes. The training related to military that NCC students received was trimmed and greater emphasis was placed on other areas , such as youth-management and social service.
